A series of water treatment infrastructure upgrades in County Meath are moving forward.
Irish Water is progressing the works in Enfield, Ballivor, and Longwood in partnership with Meath County Council.
The utility has completed essential disinfection upgrades to Kilmurray water treatment plant, which supplies Ballivor, and to both Enfield and Longwood water treatment plants. These upgrades were carried out to protect water quality and minimise the risk of Boil Water Notices.
Further works at Enfield water treatment plant carried out on Monday 30 August included the installation of a new pump to reduce the risk of water supply disruptions in the area. Additional works are also in progress at each plant to improve operational performance and resilience. These works include the installation of new pumps, additional monitoring equipment and controls and new waste facilities. These upgrades are expected to be completed in early 2022.
In addition to the disinfection works and to provide a more resilient supply, plans are also progressing to construct treated drinking water reservoirs in Enfield, Ballivor and Longwood. Storage at Longwood has been prioritised and is expected to commence in the coming months and to be completed in 2023. Storage solutions for Enfield and Ballivor have been approved and are in the early planning phase and relevant statutory processes. Further updates will be provided as these projects progress through the relevant statutory processes.
Irish Water is currently constructing 450 metres of watermain in Ballivor to help relieve some of the supply issues experienced in the area, improve resilience and maintain supply when demand for water is high. The new watermain will link the Athboy / Kildalkey supply with Ballivor. These works are progressing well and are expected to be completed by the end of September. In Trim, Irish Water has carried out extensive works to help safeguard the water supply for homes and businesses through the replacement of 1km of old leaking watermains along Rathnally Road, Newtown Road and Lackanash Road.
Irish Water is counting to work to minimise disruptions after recent supply disruptions in Enfield and Ballivor.
