Minister for State with the Responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) is being urged to visit the collapsed weir at Ballincollig Regional Park in Cork to see the urgent work that is needed to repair it and allow water back into the canal network.

Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West, Aindrias Moynihan said he wants to hear what options are being considered for funding the works required to repair the collapsed weir at Ballincollig Regional Park.

He said: "I also want to know what contact and engagement the Minister has had with the City Council to formulate a plan of action to progress these vitally important works.

"I am calling for the Minister and the council to prioritise our Weir as a key component of its strategy for parks and waterways and advance repairs as soon as possible."

In response, Deputy Moynihan was informed that the Office of Public Works (OPW), in partnership with Cork City and County Councils, is currently progressing the Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme.

The Minister's response added that the issue of Ballincollig Weir, which has been in the City Council ownership since 2019, has been raised during discussions with the Steering Group. The condition of the weir, and the objectives and requirements for any works to it, will be further discussed by all parties before any decisions are taken on what works should be undertaken as part of the Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme.
