Plans to develop a new primary and nursery school for aelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh in Strabane have been given the go-ahead.
The Irish language medium school will relocate to the greenfield site in Strahans Road where the finished project will include hard and soft play areas, car parking, landscaping and access arrangements.
The school is currently located in temporary buildings in Ballycolman Estate where 150 primary school children and 26 nursery school children are enrolled.
"This new facility will provide a fit for purpose, contemporary Gaelscoil in the district where there has been a growing demand for this type of education," said Committee Chair Councillor Chris Jackson.
"The finished project will provide a state of the art facility that will meet the educational and welfare needs of staff and pupils and move them out of the existing school that comprises out of date temporary mobile classrooms.
"Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh Primary School has a wide catchment area that extends from Strabane, Castleferd, Drumquin and Gortin which demonstrates the specialised nature of these facilities and their importance in improving the quality of and access to Irish medium education."
The application includes a single storey seven class base school building and a single storey nursery unit which have a capacity for 176-205 primary school pupils and 26 nursery school pupils.
