New Service Connections To Be Laid In Limerick

Construction News Image
Work is to commence to replace old watermains with new service connections in Limerick.

The works will take place in the Kilcolman East/Ballywilliam area. This will result in a more secure water supply for local homes and businesses, reduce leakage and improve water quality.

Approximately 5.4km of old water mains will be replaced and new service connections will be laid from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connected to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these will be replaced as part of this improvement work.

Works are being undertaken from the junction of the R518 and L1213, due south towards the Ahalin/Knockaderry road for 5.4km. The project will be carried out by Shareridge Ltd as part of Irish Water's Leakage Reduction Programme and is expected to be completed by early 2021.

In order to facilitate the efficient and safe construction of the water main, a road closure will be in place from Thursday 19 November on the route of the works.

There will be no through access during the proposed closure. However local access will be maintained at all times.

The suggested diversion for both north and southbound traffic is the R518 to/from Rathkeale to Ballingarry Village and east/west bound to/from Ahalin/Knockaderry.

Gerry O'Donnell, Irish Water's Regional Delivery Lead said: "The replacement of these old water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area. Works such as these are a key part of the Leakage Reduction Programme which involves an investment of €500 million nationally to tackle the serious problem of leakage in our water network."
