Resurfacing Works Restart on A5 Omagh Road

Phase 2 of the resurfacing works have started on a section of the A5 Omagh Road.

The work is taking place in Ballygawley between Shantavny Road and Ballynasaggart Road.

The segregated footway adjacent to the carriageway will also be resurfaced to enhance this provision for pedestrians.

To complete the scheme safely and minimise disruption to the travelling public the scheme has been divided into two elements.


The first which will involve upgrading the drainage systems and kerbing will necessitate the implementation of a lane closure from 8am on Thursday 15 October to 6pm on Saturday 15 November . A mandatory 40mph speed limit and prohibition of overtaking will be in place.

The second phase which will involve laying the final road surface and road markings, it will be necessary to close the road to Omagh bound traffic on the weekends of Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 of November and Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2020. During this time a signed diversion will be in place via A4 Ballygawley, Augher, Clogher, Fivemiletown, Enniskillen, A32 Irvinestown, Dromore and Omagh. The road will remain open to Belfast bound traffic but will be subject to traffic control measures including speed limits and prohibition of overtaking.
