Work To Restore Mural Representing Dungannon Park Layout Complete

Construction News Image
Work to restore a 3-D ceramic mural representing the Dungannon Park layout in Co Tyrone has been completed.

Local artist Shauna McCann completed the work just time for the autumn season.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan said: "The Council and its facilities are at the heart of our community and people are at the centre of what we do. We are committed to designing and delivering our services around those accessing them.

"As well as providing an opportunity to participate in arts activity, the restoration project has enabled Council to improve access and inclusion within one of our most prized parks. Everyone can view and feel the improvements to the mural, and the provision of a new sensory element within the park through the upgrade of the 3D representation of the Park's layout is to be welcomed."

Not only was the mural restored, new sections have also been added. Tree planting around the map also took place to provide a natural frame around the original ceramic map of the park, whilst the existing relief was restored and rejuvenated with new colour additions.

Ceramic leaves were all produced by different groups within the community in partnership with the artist, including Oakridge Coalisland and Dungannon Gateway - Clonoe Community, as well as families who took part in a recent Environmental Awareness Day on site. The participants can now come to the park and try and find their leaf within the mural.

The project was funded by the Department for Communities Access and Inclusion Programme and is supported by Mid Ulster District Council.
