Over 10 parks in Dublin have received a Green Flag Award.
The awards are given out to parks that achieve eight standards, including that they are welcoming, safe, clean, managed well, and operate to best environmental practices.
The Green Flag Award is the mark of a quality park or green space and is recognised throughout the world.
Dublin City Council's parks have remained open to the public throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, despite restrictions on staff, and great credit is due to the parks team. The team won five Green Flag Awards last year and have won a total of 11 awards this year.
"With the coronavirus lockdown and restricted travel over the summer months, Dubliners are aware more than ever of the value of parks and green spaces for exercise and relaxation, as safe places to meet friends and to connect with their local community," said the Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu. "It is a remarkable achievement to win 11 Green Flag Awards this year despite being in the middle of a global pandemic. I would like to thank all the parks staff and the local community for their hard work."
The 11 Green Flag Award-winning parks are:
• Bushy Park, Terenure
• Poppintree Park, Ballymun
• Blessington Street Park, North Inner City
• St Anne's Park , Raheny/Clontarf
• Markievicz Park, Ballyfermot
• Albert College Park, Glasnevin
• Herbert Park, Ballsbridge
• Father Collins Park, Belmayne/Clongriffin
• Saint Audoen's Park, Cornmarket, South Inner City
• Weaver Park, Liberties
• Saint Patrick's Park South Inner City
In addition to winning the Green Flag Award once again, St Anne's Park also received 'highly commended' status in the Pollinator Project Award.
