The lack of progress on plans for a new Garda Station in the County Cavan town of Bailieborough has sparked local frustration.
Delivery of the new facility started in 2015 and has yet to make any discernible steps forward.
Local Fianna Fáil representative Niamh Smyth has been informed the contracts for the construction of the new facility will be awarded towards the end of 2020.
Expressing serious concern at the slow pace of the project, Deputy Smyth said: "The construction process is expected to take 18 months. Realistically we are looking at another two and half years before the Station is built. Who knows how long afterwards to kit it out and see it become an operating Garda Station.
"Gardaí in the region do tremendous work. However, they require proper facilities which they do not have in Bailieborough. It is imperative we have delivery on this long-awaited Station.
"I will continue to raise this matter with the Department of Justice to ensure progress is made."
