Former president of the The Irish Planning Institute (IPI) Joe Corr has won backing from some of the country's leading professional bodies for the forthcoming election to Seanad Éireann.
The IPI has been joined by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland (RIAI) in nominating Joe for the election.
Joe Corr is a non-party election candidate on Seanad Éireann's Industrial and Commercial Panel, and has previously served as an Elected Member of Fingal County Council and held the office of Mayor during his tenure.
Commenting on his nominations, Joe said: "I am privileged to have been nominated by my own professional institute along with the professional bodies for Architects and Surveyors. Broadly the three organisations have positions on planning and the development of the built environment in Ireland and in this context are acutely aware of the needs for housing provision during a time of crisis. If elected to Seanad Éireann, I will use my term to campaign for sensible and workable policies in the development of the housing stock in Ireland. The support of the three bodies, along with my professional experience and previous experience as an elected councillor, provide a very solid foundation for an impactful contribution to the debate on housing.
"The electorate for the Industrial & Commercial Panel is made up of TDs, Councillors and outgoing Senators so I am asking for the support and votes of all those who are interested in the sensible and appropriate development of housing to address the current national crisis in the sector."
Ballot papers will be issued for the vocational panels on 16 March and polling closes on 30 March.
