Storm Disrupts Inis Meain Water Plant

A power outage in Inis Meain has resulted in some restrictions at the local water treatment plant.

Courtesy of current storm conditions, the plant is unable to pump water into supply.

ESB Networks is working to restore power as quickly as possible, but the current estimate for restoration is 4pm tomorrow, 12 February.

Irish Water is encouraging customers to conserve water by not running taps, taking showers instead of baths and refraining from using dishwashers and washing machines.


Explaining further, Tim O'Connor, Irish Water said: "The reservoir level is very low and water restrictions have been imposed to prevent us running out of water this morning. Once the power is restored it will take the reservoir approximately half a day to fill to a level that can supply the network.

"Water supply will be on from 4pm to 8pm today but will be turned off again overnight to conserve water to allow for limited supply again tomorrow morning. Air locking in the network might become an issue as reservoir levels drop further.

"We understand that this is very inconvenient for people on the island and we would like to thank them for their patience and cooperation."
