Over 10,000 Adults And Children Remain Homeless

Over 10,000 adults and children remain homeless under the current Fine Gael government, according to to Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Housing, Planning and Local Government Darragh O'Brien.

Criticising the government, the number of homeless people in the State according to the latest official figures show 10,448 people are currently living in emergency accommodation, with 3,752 of these being recorded as children.

There has been a slight reduction in the number of homeless people compared to the October figures where the highest level ever, 10,514 people was recorded.


Deputy O'Brien said: "Homeless figures for November 2019 released today show that, 6,696 adults and 3,752 children were recorded in homeless accommodation. While the figures show a slight reduction, this is a shocking indictment of the government, that over 10,000 people in Ireland are living in homelessness.

"The number of children living in emergency accommodation remains at an unacceptable level with over 3,752 children recorded in November."

The latest figures also show an increase in the number of people who are 65 years of age or older experiencing homelessness with the figure now at 165, compared to 154 people last month.

"Fianna Fáil would prioritise solving this housing crisis by building public homes on public land and delivering affordable housing for working people," concluded Deputy O'Brien.
