£4.2m Sewerage Upgrades Underway In Co Down

Construction News Image
A £4.2 million programme of sewer works is progressing in the County Down village of Dundrum.

The NI Water scheme is taking place in the village to improve coastal water quality and increase capacity to meet future development needs.

Phase two works are moving along nicely, which has allowed School Hill to re-open earlier than planned. Sewer laying will continue along Main Street, with a further road closure commencing on Manse Road on 18 November for approximately three weeks. Works on Main Street will be suspended over the Christmas period from Friday 13 December until Monday 06 January 2020, when this phase of works will re-commence and continue until Spring 2020.

In order to minimise disruption as far as possible to residents, businesses and commuters in the area, NI Water is liaising with Phoenix Gas to install both services at the same time.

Traffic management arrangements have been discussed with the Department for Infrastructure, and in order for the works to be undertaken safely, it is necessary to have a lane closure in place for the duration of the works. Two-way traffic is being maintained with the use of temporary traffic signals, and there are some parking restrictions in place around the working area.

When complete, this project will significantly reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and environmental pollution in this part of the sewerage network during periods of heavy rainfall.

BSG Civil Engineering is delivering the scheme on behalf of NI Water.
