A contractor has signed on to deliver a series of Shared Spaces projects across County Down.
FP McCann has been appointed to the Peace IV Shared Spaces and Services Project, which will see schemes completed across four towns.
The objective of the Shared Spaces is to create a more cohesive society through increased provision of services which can be used by all the community. Each project proposed under the shared spaces programme has been suggested by the community during community consultations on the needs of the area. The project is supported by the European Union's PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
In Comber, work will see the delivery of a skate park, family kick about area and path network with lighting. Holywood will also welcome a similar family kick about area, as well as Wildflower Meadow/ Tree Planting and a serpentine path network and gate onto Demesne Road for pedestrian access.
Further work will include improvements to the existing walking trail path, drainage works, seating, sculptures and entrance signage at Portaferry's Nugent's Wood. The town's Ropewalk area will also see an installation of an official walking trail, seating, sculptures and entrance signage.
The final areas to see Shared Spaces upgrades are Princess Anne Road and Anchor Car Park in Portavogie, where a new skate park and outdoor gym will be built respectively.
FP McCann has called on local sub-contractors and suppliers to express interest on the projects.
