Contractor Sought For Carrigaline Western Relief Road

Construction News Image
The search has begun for a contractor to take forward the Carrigaline Western Relief Road in County Cork.

Cork County Council is inviting tenders for the prequalification of suitable contractors for the scheme.

Suitable contractors will be shortlisted for invitation to tender for the main works contract before the end of the year, with a contractor expected to be appointed in early 2020.

The Relief Road will alleviate traffic congestion in Main Street, Carrigaline, as well as providing the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the ongoing development of the town centre, including public realm improvements in Main Street.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Christopher O'Sullivan said: "The progression of the Carrigaline Western Relief Road project will make a huge difference for the residents and businesses of Carrigaline and its surrounding towns. This project will go hand in hand with other developments that will cement Carrigaline as a great place to live."

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey added: "Progressing this project to tender stage is a welcome development for Carrigaline. Carrigaline is the largest town in Cork County. These works will ensure that Carrigaline can continue to meet the needs of its residents as well as supporting the development of the wider Cork community."

Work is expected to start on the ground in April 2020, with construction set to take 18 months.
