Mid & East Antrim To Establish Climate Change Working Group

An all-party climate change working group is set to be established by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council after a motion was passed.

This group follows on from the success of a similar model from Belfast City Council, which looks to investigate what actions the council can take to help to mitigate this crisis.

Councillor Eugene Reid, who put forward the motion, commented: "Climate breakdown is the seismic global challenge facing this generation.


"Failure to take action now will result in significant changes to our global climate and weather patterns that will devastate developed and developing economies across the world, leaving millions destitute and homeless.

"The climate crisis is a global challenge that must be addressed at a local, regional and international level.

"Every level of government must turn its urgent attention toward the coming emergency.

"We will press for councils across the North to cooperate with local authorities in Great Britain on a decarbonisation agenda in homes to reduce reliance on solid fuel burning."

The motion was also seconded by Cllr Danny Donnelly.
