Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has stepped up its efforts to tackle climate change with the publication of its Climate Change Action Plan 2019-2024.

The Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) identifies the main climate risks facing the Council and includes both the Councils' and the current levels of greenhouse gas emissions across the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area.

The Plan puts forward a range of actions that are ongoing or planned within the Council, under five key areas - Energy and Buildings, Transport, Flood Resilience, Nature-Based Solutions and Resource Management.

It represents a shared outlook and an all of society approach to how Ireland will achieve its 2030 climate and energy targets, and sets out a trajectory to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Philomena Poole, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said: "The Council's Climate Change Action Plan marks a key milestone in an on-going partnership between Council staff, elected members, Codema, the Dublin Climate Action Regional Office, and a range of other stakeholders. This is the moment when we must take action and show our ambition through real action to preserve the world as we know it for the generations that will come after us – our own children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This Council is committed to continued climate action, across the key areas of adaptation, mitigation and public engagement, undertaking of a range of initiatives that will enable the county to contribute to reaching national and European energy targets to 2030, 2050 and beyond."

The Plan is now being formally submitted to the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Richard Bruton in response to the requirements of the National Adaptation Framework and Action 181 of the Minister's National Climate Action Plan.
