The new 7km road is expected to benefit around 20,000 drivers daily.
It forms the first phase of the £185 million A6 Randalstown to Castledawson Dualling Scheme, which will see 14.7 kilometres of the A6 North Western Transport Corridor upgraded between Randalstown and Castledawson.

Welcoming the progress, Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney said: "This new dual carriageway will improve road safety and cut journey times between Derry and Belfast.
"It will also help provide a boost to the local economy and will be particularly welcomed by hauliers and other commercial road users.
"Work is underway and is progressing well on the other phases of this vital infrastructure project and I look forward to seeing their completion in the time ahead."
The scheme is being delivered by a joint venture between GRAHAM and Farrans.
