Construction News Image
Northern Ireland construction firm FK Lowry has completed a €700,000 piling scheme in Dublin.

The firm delivered a challenging project for new client the Mac-Group at IPC House on Shelbourne Road.

This Secant Bored Pile Retaining Wall Scheme involved the design and installation of 183 linear metres of Hard/Firm Secant Bored Pile Wall for a Single Storey Basement for a new Office Development at the site of the former IPC House in Ballsbridge.

FK Lowry mobilised their Soilmec SR-75 and SR-95 dual purpose piling rigs to undertake 600mm dia. primary piles and 700mm/600mm secondary Piles to form 3m rock sockets in the underlying Limestone Bedrock. The Ground Conditions were described as Made Ground overlying Soft Silts and Clay before medium dense, water bearing gravels were encountered. This was further underlain by moderately strong to strong Limestone Bedrock.

Martin McKinstry, Contracts Engineer explained: "This was an extremely challenging scheme for our Operations Teams due to the constraints of the site, a tight programme and other trades working in close proximity. The Safety of our people and the safe operation of our plant is our number one priority at FK Lowry and we worked collaboratively with the Principal Contractor to ensure excellent lines of communication were maintained throughout our works. Having an excellent relationship with the Client was of paramount importance to ensure the successful outcome of the scheme."

FK Lowry's dual purpose piling rigs are ideally suited for the installation of Secant & Contiguous Bored Pile Retaining Walls in Rock. This is due to their high torque capability and specialist German Engineered Tools, Wear Parts and Consumables.
