The National Development Plan Is 'Not Fit For Purpose' - Green Party

Construction News Image
The Green Party has announced that the National Development Plan (NDP) is "not fit for purpose" and has welcomed the passing of a motion calling for it to be revised in line with Ireland's emissions targets.

The Dáil recently passed a motion calling for the NDP to be revised.

Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan said: "The Government saw no need to climate assess the National Development Plan prior to publication. We now know that it will result in a 70% shortfall in meeting our emissions targets by 2030 even if every single measure in the plan were implemented.

"This amendment sends an important signal from the Dáil to the government that the NDP is not fit for purpose and will lead to a massive failure to meet our emissions targets. This Dáil is willing to commit to meeting Ireland’s 2030 targets and a net-zero carbon economy by 2050 — while the Government continues to resist."
