Construction News Image
A €1.5 million piling scheme has been completed on a basement project in Dublin.

FK Lowry completed the work on behalf of contractor Sisk, delivering the design and installation of 273 linear metres of Hard/Firm Secant Bored Pile Wall for a Double Storey Basement at a new Commercial Development.

The firm mobilised its Soilmec SR-75 and SR-95 dual purpose piling rigs to undertake 900mm dia. primary piles to depths of up to 10m and founding into the underlying Limestone Bedrock. 700mm/600mm Secondary Piles were then installed to depths of up to 16m including up to 6m of rock socket. FK Lowry also designed and installed 91 No. Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Anchors to provide temporary restraint to the hard/firm secant bored pile wall. This was one of the largest uses of GFRP Anchors on an individual Basement Project in Dublin City Centre.

Robbie Foster, FK Lowry Works Supervisor explained: "We are delighted with the outcome of the scheme and the collaborative relationship that we developed at the commencement of the project meant that we worked extremely closely with Sisk to successfully deliver the scheme safely, to time and to budget. The Safety of our staff and the safe operation of our plant is our number one priority at FK Lowry and we worked collaboratively with the Principal Contractor to ensure excellent lines of communication were maintained throughout our works."
