Sinn Féin has met with a number of key representatives at St Colm's High School in Colin, west Belfast, over plans to build a new school.

MLA Órlaithí Flynn and MP Paul Maskey have held a series of meetings over the past two years with Department of Education, CCMS and St Colm's in support of the campaign for a new school.

In the most recent meeting at St Colm's, the party met with the school principal Adrian Walsh, Department of Education permanent secretary Derek Baker, Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) chief executive Gerard Campbell, Annie Armstrong of the Colin Neighbourhood Partnership and member of the Board of Governors to discuss the need for a new school for Colin.

Urging the institutions to support the development of a new school, Ms Flynn said: "The Colin area is being transformed by a regeneration process including urban villages, investment in the Twinbrook Link, the Belfast Rapid Transport System and a new transport hub.

"Work is also currently underway on a new state-of-the-art leisure centre and work on a new public park and play park for the Colin area is due to start.

"Central to all of this regeneration is the educational facilities and opportunities available to our young people.

"It's crucial that CCMS and the Department of Education do everything they can to ensure that a new post primary school in Colin is realised."
