New Bus Facilities Delivered In Kinsale

The town of Kinsale in County Cork has been boosted with newly upgraded bus facilities.

Delivered by Martin O'Callaghan Ltd, the new shelter and re-located terminus stop significantly increased efficiency and reliability of the 226 bus service serving Kinsale, Cork and Cork Airport and the Local Link service to Clonakilty.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy opened the new facilities, describing them as an "excellent improvement to the public transport infrastructure in Kinsale".


The new facilities are wheelchair accessible, feature a large four bay bus shelter with an automatic barrier, controlled bus exit and accommodate double-deck, tri-axle coaches on the route facilitating increased capacity and improved service. The newly constructed footpaths, LED public lighting, resurfacing works and controlled pedestrian crossing on Pier Road all result in much improved accessibility from Pier Road and Long Quay. The stop also supports Real Time Passenger Information services.

According to Bus Éireann, these works have resulted in a reduced journey time by as much as 20 minutes during the busy season.

The project was funded by the National Transport Authority and implemented under Project Ireland 2040.
