Fianna Fáil Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Councillor and Local Election candidate in Stillorgan, Donal Smith spoke out on the issue after concerns were expressed by the public.
Cllr Smith said: "I have written to schools in my local area offering my posters for classroom use and have recieved a positive response. The material used for printing the posters is lightweight, durable, waterproof and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It can be used for display boards, temporary portable outdoor signage, arts and crafts and as materials for science and construction lessons.

"I am committed to ensuring that my posters will be reused in schools where possible and otherwise disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
"Climate change is among the greatest issues of our time and protecting the environment is our duty. South Dublin happens to be one of the most biodiverse regions in the country and we shouldn't take that for granted. While there are regulations in place to deter the dumping of election posters we should all be vigilant to ensure they do not have any adverse impact on the surrounding natural habitats."
