The Department of Housing's March Homeless report has showed an increase in adult, child and family homelessness with approximately 10,305 people listed in the document.
A total of 6,484 adults were classed as homeless, as well as 1,733 families and 3,821 dependants.
Publishing the figures, Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy said: "The figures for March show a slight increase on February, with four additional adults and 37 additional dependants in emergency accommodation. We continue to put considerable efforts in to prevent people from entering emergency accommodation, while also exiting as many families and individuals from homelessness as possible each month."
Sinn Féin's Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin has hit out at Minister Murphy over the figures, claiming the number is actually "much higher".
He said: "It is once again clear that Rebuilding Ireland, the Government's housing plan, is failing those in the greatest need of housing."
Deputy Ó Broin has also urged people to attend the Raise The Roof demonstration in Dublin on 18 May to voice their anger at the government's housing policy.
"The Raise The Roof in Dublin demo should be a massive show of anger by the public at a government who has turned its back on thousands of children," he added.
"Until the Government accepts that Rebuilding Ireland is not working, and implements a new housing policy, things are going to get worse.
"But only mass mobilisation on the streets alongside pressure in the Dáil and Council can secure this.
"So join us in Dublin on May 18th and make sure your voice is heard.”
