Call For Information On Funding Of Cork's Event Centre

Construction News Image
A Cabinet meeting is set to be held today, 01 May, which will deliver updates on Cork city's planned Event Centre.

Labour's local election candidate Peter Horgan has continued his campaign calling for details on the project's funding model. This follows the refusal of another Freedom of Information Request for correspondence based on commercial sensitivity reasons regarding the funding for the centre.

Mr Horgan said: "The reasons for such secrecy have never been fully explained. There have been four items of correspondence relating to this multi-million funding proposal and we can't see it in public?

"What are the contents of the correspondence? How will such a loan proposal affect the delivery of services in the expanded Cork City Council area? There questions mounting and mounting on this issue every week and the people of Cork deserve answers.

"The Cabinet is in Cork today - I hope they will be delivering answers on this issue while here. I want to see this development progress, but not at the ultimate cost of the services underpinning this city. We need full, frank and open details on why is going on."

The Cabinet meeting will be held at Blackrock Castle with Tánaiste Simon Coveney in attendance.
