Irish Water Hosts Careers Event In Monaghan

Irish Water has hosted a careers event in Monaghan, welcoming close to 100 transition year students from the area to learn about the Story of Water.

The students from Beech Hill College, Monaghan Collegiate, and Colaiste Oiriall also heard a series of educational and career stories of the utility's staff members.

The event took place in the Garage Theatre during Engineer's Week which ran from 02-08 March.

Irish Water employs almost 800 staff across the country in a variety of disciplines including engineering, environmental science, HR, finance, legal, planning and communications with almost 130 staff working out of the three regional offices in the North and West Region based in Castlebar, Donegal and Cavan. Staff from the Cavan and Castlebar offices participated in last week's event.

Asset Operations Lead for Cavan and Monaghan Kevin Smith gave an insightful presentation of the water and wastewater services in Monaghan, where the treatment plants are located, where the raw water is derived from, and how the wasterwater is returned to the environment. 

He said: "As a significant employer of engineers, Irish Water is always keen to promote engineering as a career option. The students who participated in today's event will have gained an insight in the complex process that is involved in treating water and delivering wastewater back to the environment safely."
