Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy, has welcomed the beginning of the Part 8 proposal for road improvement works on the R-572 approach road to Castletownbere.
The proposed scheme includes the construction of shared use footpaths and cycle ways, junction improvements and traffic calming at Rodeen, Derrymihan West and Foildarrig, Castletownbere between the Bridewell junction of the R-572-312 and L-4918-0 and a point 363 metres west of the Rodeen Cross junction of the R-572-312 and L-4920-0 for a distance of 2230 metres.
Mayor Murphy noted that the improvements will make a real difference to those living and travelling through Castletownbere. He said: "This project has been one of my main priorities during my term as County Mayor and I am delighted to see funding in place for Phase 1 which is scheduled to start later this Summer. This is a very important scheme and I would encourage all those affected to engage with the Part 8 process and participate in the planning of this scheme."
Full details in relation to the project will be available for inspection and purchase from 11 March up to and including 08 April at the Area Engineer's Office, Foildarrig, Castletownbere, Beara, Co. Cork, at a fee of €5 per set.
Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed development may be made on or before Tuesday 23 April in writing to Castletownbere Area Office, Cork County Council, Foildarrig, Castletownbere, Beara, Co. Cork.
The proposal is adhering to the recommendations of the Castletownbere Transportation Study and has been designed by AECOM Consulting Engineers in consultation with the Council's Castletownbere Area Office.
