Engineering contractor Environmental Techniques has enhanced the sewer networks of two Co Kildare towns.
The €700,000 scheme, in partnership with Irish Water and Kildare County Council, saw the sewerage of neighbouring towns Naas and Newbridge surveyed, repaired and cleaned.
Residents and business in the areas can now benefit from a reduced likelihood of sewer collapses and blockages, reduced potential for sewer flooding and odour issues, and improved performance levels following the works, which addressed structural deficits of the network. The scheme was completed using non-dig technology in order to reduce impacts on residents, the general public, business, and schools and to minimise traffic disruption.
As part of the project, the Tallaght based firm cleaned the sewer network, undertook an accurate inspection and removed any blockages caused by inappropriate items e.g. wet wipes, cotton pads, fats, oils and greases. CCTV surveys of the sewer networks were used to determine their condition and the extent of any defects. 3.5 km of existing sewer was rehabilitated through the installation of plastic liners, patch liners and connections with structural defects were also repaired.
Speaking following the completion of works, Olive Marshall, Irish Water Capital Programmes Regional Lead, said: "We would like to thank the local communities in Naas and Newbridge for their patience and cooperation while these works were carried out. It represents a €700,000 investment by Irish Water, and will benefit the local communities through reducing the risk of sewer collapses or blockages, reduce potential sewer flooding and odour issues, and improve the performance level of the sewer network. We'd also like to thank our partners in Kildare County Council and Environmental Techniques Ltd for their essential roles in this project, which will benefit the people of Naas and Newbridge."
