Irish Water has teamed up with Fingal County Council to upgrade and extend the water supply network in Donabate.
The two-part project will allow further economic growth and development in the area, while safeguarding the water supply to homes and businesses in Donabate.
Phase one of the work involves the extension of the water network by installing a new 2.2km trunk main along the western end of Hearse Road. Irish Water has published a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to acquire the land required for this aspect, along with a notice confirming the CPO to acquire the necessary lands and wayleaves required to carry out the work.
The CPO will enable the water services provider to construct, lay, keep, operate, maintain, renew, repair and inspect the proposed infrastructure required.
Fingal County Council has initiated plans to ensure traffic disruption is kept to a minimum, and a traffic management plan will be prepared in consultation with Irish Water in advance of the work.
The second phase involved the simultaneous delivery of 3.8km of new trunk water main with the construction of the new Donabate Link Road prior to its opening.
Both strands are due to be completed in late 2019.
Commenting on the work, Paul Hickey, Infrastructure Programme Regional Lead with Irish Water said: "This significant project will ensure that the water supply network in Donabate will have the capacity to provide for future population growth and economic development in the area. Developing our water infrastructure to ensure the capacity to meet the current and future needs of the area and support future development is a key priority for Irish Water. Irish Water will continue to update the communities in the area on the progress of this essential water infrastructure investment."
