Long-Awaited Upgrades Commence On Lisburn Junction

Construction News Image
Developers have commenced work to deliver a significant upgrade to the Knockmore/Ballinderry Road junction in Lisburn.

The busy junction will be upgraded with new traffic lights and additional lanes to facilitate better traffic movement.

Work is expected to take six months to complete.

This progress comes after local residents and councillors lobbied for improvements to a number of junctions in the area.

Chairman of the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's cross party LD1 Brokerstown Lands Steering Group, Alderman William Leathem, said: "The Knockmore Road is one of our main arterial routes in and out of Lisburn and it is critical that these works have now started to improve safety and ease traffic pressures in the area.

"Across the Council we fully appreciate residents' concerns and public frustrations that junction upgrades have not taken place before now. We too have shared these concerns and the Council has, along with our local MP and MLAs, continued, for many years, to push for this work to be completed.

"This is the first in a series of upgrades at junctions along the Knockmore and Prince William Roads. It may have been a long time coming but collectively, we all, at last, will see work begin on these very busy roads."

The scheme is being delivered on behalf of the Department for Infrastructure.
