Engineers Ireland has launched its 13th annual Engineers Week.
The 2019 campaign, taking place from 02-08 March, will celebrate the world of engineering in Ireland through series of nationwide events.
It will help promote engineering as a career and the importance of the profession to Ireland.
Engineering firms, companies big and small, libraries, local authorities, schools and colleges nationwide have been encouraged to get involved in this year's event.
The event is coordinated on a national basis by Engineers Ireland's STEPS programme, funded under Science Foundation Ireland through their SFI Discover Programme, and supported by industry leaders, Intel, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Arup and ESB.
Caroline Spillane, Director General of Engineers Ireland, said: "Engineers in Ireland have never been more in demand. Our recent survey of members has predicted that over 6,000 new jobs will be created in the engineering sector this year. Furthermore, a ready supply of talented engineers will also be fundamental to realising the ambitions of Project Ireland 2040.
"Engineers Week will bring the fascinating world of engineering to life in communities nationwide and will inspire today's children to engineer the Ireland of tomorrow. I strongly urge our engineering community to get involved and showcase their profession to primary and secondary students in their locality and highlight the amazing ways Irish engineers are pushing the limits of ingenuity and innovation."
Margie McCarthy, Head of Education and Public Engagement at Science Foundation Ireland, added: "Science Foundation Ireland is delighted to support Engineers Week 2019 through the SFI Discover Programme, under our commitment to make science, technology, engineering and maths accessible to all. By supporting this national initiative, we are encouraging young people to consider the science and engineering in their everyday lives, and engineers can play a crucial role in helping to inspire the next generation to explore careers in STEM. I would encourage everyone to get involved in Engineers Week 2019."
