HE Reaffirms Interest In Derelict Carrickhill Land For Social Housing

Construction News Image
The Housing Executive has reaffirmed its interest in an area of land in Carrickhill to be redeveloped as social housing.

Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has welcomed the confirmation after a site visit today, 03 December, with the Department of Infrastructure, Department of Communities, the Housing Executive and Choice Housing with the Carrickhill Residents.

Carál Ní Chuilín said: "As part of ongoing lobbying for social housing in North Belfast I contacted the Department for Infrastructure to ascertain why land at Clifton Street/Regent St in the Carrickhill area had not been given to the Housing Executive.

"I welcome the fact the Housing Executive has confirmed it is willing to re-affirm their interest in this site for housing and will now go through the formal procedure for doing so.

"The Department of Infrastructure have also reaffirmed that the process to offer the land to any other body has halted.

"I welcome confirmation from the Department of Communities that they are completely committed to ensuring the Programme for Government Commitment to reduce the waiting lists for homes will be honoured.

"Sinn Féin will continue to make sure that this issue remains at the forefront in meetings with the relevant bodies and residents before and after Christmas."
