MMD Construction Cork has commenced work on a €9.7 million social housing development in Kinsale, Co Cork.
The project will comprise 18 two-storey two-bed and 20 two-storey three-bed houses as well as two single storey two-bed special needs dwellings.
It is being developed in Cappagh, Ballinacubby, by Clúid Housing in partnership with Cork County Council.
Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy, who launched the project, said: "Cork County Council has had a long and rewarding working relationship with Approved Housing Bodes Bodies such as Clúíd. We are delighted to partner with Clúid in this scheme which is part of a large housing programme we are undertaking throughout the county. The news of homes for 40 new families and individuals is very welcome. This project is a fine example of what can be achieved when local authorities and housing associations work in partnership to meet demand."
Clúid Housing's New Business Manager James O Halloran commented: "Breaking ground today on the site in Kinsale marks an important milestone of a journey that will end in 2020. Clúid already has a strong profile in Cork with over 900 houses throughout the city and county and we are delighted to continue to meet the housing needs of the county. Today we celebrate the result of a long-standing relationship between Cork County Council and Clúid. We simply cannot create homes without partnerships with local authorities."
Clúid will finance the construction of these units through a combination of a Capital Advance and Availability Payment from the Department of Environment Community and Local Government (DOECLG) and a loan facility with the Housing Finance Agency (HFA).
The project is expected to be delivered in 20 months.
