Plans are progressing for a new playground and library in Bandon, Co Cork.
An Bord Pleanala upheld the original planning approval by Cork County Council for the library. The council is also working alongside the local local community group to progress the playground project to planning early in 2019.
The proposed playground would be located next to the council's Multi Use Games Area and Skate Park next to the N71 and River Bandon.
Bandon Playground Group will be advancing the playground's next phase of design and development with support from Cork County Council. The Council will also look at the old playground site, located behind the former Town Hall in Bandon, with a view to enhancing the space.
The plans for a new library at St Patrick's Place will address the issue of restricted space available at Bandon's current facility.
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey said: "I welcome the decision of An Bord Pleanala to uphold the original planning approval by Cork County Council with regard to the Library, and in particular their statement that the proposed development would be acceptable in terms of scale, mass and design, would enhance the visual amenity and character of the area and would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience.
"This town centre development, together with the news that a new playground site has been secured is a further positive development, reaffirming Cork County Council's significant commitment to the rebuilding and reinvigoration of Bandon town and its businesses, community structures and life. We look forward to continuing to work closely with all local stakeholders in realising our ambitious vision for the town and its region."
Cllr Aidan Lombard, Chair of the Bandon Kinsale Municipal District, added: "I greatly welcome this news for the people of Bandon. Together with the new footbridge and weir, this rejuvenation will offer an exceptional variety of services and a better quality of life for communities across Bandon Communities."
