Work To Begin To Replace Old Water Mains In Co Meath

Work is to begin to replace old and aging water mains in Kells, Co Meath.

The water mains are prone to frequent bursts and leakage and will be replaced with heavy duty polyethylene (plastic) and ductile iron pipes.

The works will start on Monday, 22 October, and forms part of a larger project to replace 25km of aging water mains across 16 locations in County Meath.

Works are scheduled to be completed in January 2019.


The works will begin in the Gardenrath/Rockfield Housing estates followed by Gardenrath and R164 roads.

Following that works will progress towards Church Lane and adjoining streets. In total it is estimated that works will take 6 months to complete in Kells.

The works will be carried out by Shareridge Limited on behalf of Irish Water.

William McKnight from Irish Water said: "This project will provide a more reliable water supply by strengthening and reinforcing the networks in these supply areas, reducing disruptions in supply improving water quality and reducing leakage. Upon completion, there will be significant improvements in network performance and levels of customer service in terms of efficiency and security of supply."
