A roofing and cladding firm based in Toomebridge has completed work on a £3.2million extension project at Luton Airport.
Thornton installed 11,000m2 of Euroclad Elite standing seam aluminium roofing system within various areas across the airport's grounds including new pier gates and departure / arrival areas, both landside and airside.
A further 11,000m2 of wall panelling was installed using Kingspan's architectural façade system.
The project forms part of a wider £100m development to increase the passenger throughput capacity of Luton airport.
Paul McErlane, Contracts Manager at Thornton commented: "Thornton is particularly proud to have delivered this project on time within budget in a live environment where public safety was a high on the agenda. The streamlined and practical products used paired with quality workmanship were key to this project's success."
Marco Abrate, Lead architect at Todd Architects commented: "Building control and British standards were key drivers in our choice in products for this project. For example, certain areas required ASIAD compliant façade systems – they needed to be bomb-blast proof. Other key considerations included the need for products with a long lifespan that fell within tight budgets.
"Thornton was very proactive throughout the project and the level of competence on site was impressive; undoubtedly playing a key role in the project's success. Thornton staff quickly fitted in as part of the team and were a pleasure to work with."
Northern-Ireland owned McLaughlin & Harvey was the main contractor on the project.
