Three times more new build homes were in development in Q2 of 2018 than the same period last year.
Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy published the Quarter 2 2018 Social Housing Construction Projects Status Report today, 27 September, which sets out the continuing progress being made in advancing the national Local Authority and Approved Housing Body new-build pipeline.
The Minister also published details in respect of overall social housing delivery across all programmes for Quarter 2 2018, broken down on a local authority basis and tracked against 2018 targets.
At the end of Q2 2018, some 12,358 additional housing solutions had been provided across all local authorities this year.
Approximately 4,602 homes were under construction at end Q2 2018; and some 1,577 homes had been approved and were about to go on site.
The full programme listed in the report now includes 1,067 schemes, delivering 16,351 homes – a substantial increase on the 11,049 homes which were in the programme at the end of the same quarter last year.
Minister Murphy said: "Good headway is being made across each delivery area but I need to see more being done, and it is essential that we meet our ambitious targets for 2018. The pace of delivery on the build side will have to pick up considerably in the second half of the year.
"That said on the new build side, the Construction Status Report details new builds in social housing by local authorities and housing bodies, though excluding LA Part V and shows an increase when measured against the second quarter of 2017, with more than 3 times more new builds being delivered. 29 out of 31 authorities saw completions in the first half of the year with many more projects progressing through the pipeline."
