Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has hailed a recent meeting with NIO officials over possible City Deals for L'Derry and Belfast as "constructive and positive".
In July, Chancellor Philip Hammond invited bids for a Derry-Londonderry City Deal to drive forward economic growth and "build an economy that works for everyone".
City Deals are bespoke packages of funding for large projects to boost the economy and create better jobs for more people. They involve funding from Westminster, Department of Finance and Local Authorities, with money money invested in visitor attractions, regeneration, public transport, infrastructure, digital connectivity, research and innovation centres and skills development.
Speaking of her meeting with NIO officials on Thursday, Sinn Féin's Foyle MP Elisha McCallion said: "I met today with NIO officials alongside my party colleague Paul Maskey MP to discuss securing City Deals for both Derry and Belfast.
"It was a constructive and positive meeting and we both emphasised the needs for both bids to be progressed in parallel so that both can come to fruition and deliver the maximum benefit for people in both cities.
"Securing a City Deal is key to growing the economy of Derry and the wider north west region as part of the strategic growth plan.
"I will continue to engage with the NIO and next week I will be travelling to London to meet British government officials as part of Our efforts to secure a City Deal for Derry."
