Work On £150,000 Riversdale Leisure Centre Refurb Complete

Construction News Image
Work on a £150,000 leisure centre refurbishment project in Strabane is now complete.

The scheme at Riversdale Leisure Centre was carried out during the summer holidays and involved upgrading changing facilities in the men's, women's and family areas, including the installation of new lockers and cubicles, and a repainting of the internal area of the building.

The newly-renovated facility will also host family fun inflatable pool sessions – with a new bespoke pool inflatable 'The Whirligig' and smaller floats and inflatable toys in the teaching pool for children.

To mark the completion of the works and to celebrate the centre's 40th anniversary, a 'Family Fun Day' will take place from 12pm – 2pm on Sunday, 30 September.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr John Boyle, said: "I am delighted to be celebrating the 40th anniversary of this fantastic community facility with an afternoon packed full of children's entertainment – including bouncy castles, face painting, balloon modelling and much more.

"I would therefore encourage everyone to join in the family fun and come along on the day!

"Thousands of people from Strabane and the surrounding area have made use of and enjoyed the facilities at Riversdale over 40 years to improve their health and fitness.

"Indeed, it will be great to get a first glimpse of the newly refurbished leisure centre following £150,000 investment by the Council.

"I also have no doubts that users will be delighted with the refurbishment works – and hope the new look centre will encourage more residents to make use of the sporting and leisure facilities on offer."
