BioMarin Announces €37m Expansion In Cork

Bio-pharmaceutical company BioMarin is to expand its plant in Shanbally, Co Cork, creating more than 50 jobs.

The €37 million expansion will bring the total employment at the plant to over 400.

BioMarin manufactures drugs and therapies to treat rare genetic diseases which mostly affect children.

The company's Executive Vice-President Robert Baffi announced the expansion in a meeting with staff at the plant this morning, 03 September.

Cork Senator and Leader of Seanad Éireann, Jerry Buttimer said: "The news today that BioMarin are expanding their plant at Shanbally is great news for the locality.

"BioMarin has been operating in Cork for the past seven years and has become a key employer in the area.

"I want to thank everyone involved in making this expansion a reality. The IDA in particular has been instrumental in bringing investment to the area and they are to be commended."
