Freestyle Skateparks has secured a contract to deliver two new skate parks in Balbriggan and Skerries.
Before appointing a contractor, Fingal County Council undertook a series of design workshops with stakeholders to determine their requirements.
The detailed design process for the skatepark is already underway and concept images have been produced.
A spokesperson for the Balbriggan Skatepark Committee said: "It is heart-warming to know that the local Balbriggan Community and Fingal County Council can work so constructively together towards the completion of such well-sought-after recreational projects. We know that the Skaters and wider Balbriggan community alike will be very grateful for the support given to secure this well-needed sports facility."
A spokesperson on behalf of Skerries Skatepark Committee added: "Our committee is delighted and thrilled to hear that Skerries will have a wonderful skatepark to look forward in the years ahead. At every step of this process Fingal County Council were transparent, supportive and practical in how we go about engaging with the community and working with the council itself, on behalf of everyone in Skerries. Thank you!"
Construction is expected to begin on the skate parks later this year.
They will be completed and available for use within the first half of 2019.
Welcoming the news, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Anthony Lavin commented: "The construction of the skateparks in Skerries and Balbriggan will be a wonderful resource for both communities. Recreational spaces are important for residents to make connections in their communities and pursue their interests. I'm delighted that the Council were able to contribute this project and look forward to its completion."
