The centre, also known as the Andrew Jackson Cottage, is the ancestral home of the 7th President of the United States, Andrew Jackson.
Works are now underway to conserve the Centre, which consists of a refurbished traditional thatched Ulster–Scots farmhouse.
The project includes rethatching the current roof, safeguarding against damp and upgrading some of the cottage's interior and exterior features.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Lindsay Millar, said she was delighted the local authority had announced an investment in the tourist attraction.
"The Andrew Jackson Cottage is one of our must-see destinations for visitors to Mid and East Antrim," she said.
"We are hugely proud of our links to Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, and when making a visit to the cottage you really are stepping back in time to the 1750s.
"Our role as a Council is to go out and make sure we spread the word of how great Northern Ireland, and in particular Mid and East Antrim, really is, and to support investment in our wonderful borough. This announcement is testament to that commitment."
Works are due to continue until May 2019.
