€280m Waterford North Quays Project Gets Green Light

A €280 million project to redevelop Waterford City's North Quays has been given the green light after two objections to the project were withdrawn.

An Bord Pleanála was due to hold public meetings regarding the objections.

Full planning permission will now be granted by October and works are due to begin on site in early 2019.

Fianna Fáil TD for Waterford, Mary Butler, welcomed the news: "Since this news broke, there has been a really positive atmosphere in Waterford. I believe that this development will be the catalyst for the future development of the Ireland's oldest city. It can allow the city to grow, generate new businesses and jobs, and make it an even better place to live, work and raise a family."

She added: "Major congratulations and kudos are due to Waterford City and County Council CEO, Michael Walsh and his team, for their vision, drive and tenacity in driving this project forward."
