Proposal Approved For Cork Harbour Incinerator Project

A proposal to build a waste-to-energy incinerator in Cork Harbour has been approved by An Bord Pleanála.

The €160 million project will bring a new facility to Ringaskiddy.

Waste company Indaver Ireland applied for permission in December 2015, and has been waiting for a decision since July 2016.

According to reports the board's inspector had recommended refusal.


Fine Gael Cork South Central Senator, Jerry Buttimer, has expressed his concern: "Today's decision by An Bord Pleanála is extremely disappointing. I know it will be very frustrating for the residents and also for the Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment (CHASE) whose members have worked so hard on this matter.

"The case they made against the incinerator at the oral hearing of An Bord Pleanála was compelling."

CHASE has battled against Indaver since its first incinerator proposal back in 2001. The waste company has since had plans refused in 2001 and 2011. A CHASE petition was also launched in 2015 against the project.
