A new water main is to be installed in Galway.
Work to replace 160 metres of ageing water main in Roundstone will begin on Thursday, 05 April.
On Monday, 09 April, work will start in Conramon and Clonbur to replace and decommission sections of ageing water mains that are prone to bursts.
The replacement of the water mains are being carried out as part of Irish Water's national Leakage Reduction Programme.
In Roundstone, the water mains renewal works will involve the decommissioning and replacement of over 160 metres of old and damaged cast iron and polyethylene (plastic) water mains. The existing pipes will be replaced with modern high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes. The works will allow improved flow of water to the town securing supply and improving pressure for local business and residents. This section of works will take place along Fuscia Lane from the R341 to Fairgreen Cottages.
The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.
In Cornamona and Clonbur the first aspect of these renewal works will involve the upgrade of over two kilometres of old water mains and laying of new water service connections from the new water main in the road to customers' property boundaries, connecting it to the customers' water supply.
The second aspect of these renewal works will involve the decommissioning of over 4.4 kilometres of old and damaged polyethylene (plastic) water mains in a number of locations within the community with connection to an existing reliable water mains already in place.
Both projects will be carried out by Farrans Construction on behalf of Irish Water.
