NIHE Called To Clarify Disruption To Maintenance Work On Social Homes

The Alliance Party has called on the Northern Ireland Housing Executive to confirm to social housing residents the disruption it will cause to maintenance works after construction firm Carillion announced it was going into liquidation.

The firm currently three contracts the NIHE for home maintenance and gas installation in North Down, Strangford, and south and east Belfast.


Strangford MLA Kellie Armstrong said: "The Housing Executive have now stated there may be some disruption to routine services in forthcoming days. We need urgent clarification from the Housing Executive as to exactly what works will continue and which will not, and what residents can do in the meantime.

"The absence of a Minister and a working Executive puts barriers in place to deal with emergency issues such as this. This is why we need locally accountable Ministers who can understand the impact the potential loss of 300 jobs could have to the Construction Industry."
