IDA Selects Liason To Help Develop Data Centre In Mayo

The IDA has selected a liason to help Mayo County Council over the development of a planned data centre at Killala.

The liason will keep members updated on the application process.

Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary welcomed the announcement.

Mr Calleary said: "The IDA has set out a number of criteria, including proximity to a high voltage electricity network, high voltage substations, fibre networks and access to a national motorway network. The Killala site ticks all of these boxes and more. In fact, not only does meet the power and broadband requirements, it also has access to a transatlantic cable, which provides a telecommunications link between Ireland and the US.


"The construction of a data centre would provide a major economic boost to the county and would inspire confidence in the workforce here. It would also go some way towards helping rebalance the two-tier economy which has continued under Fine Gael in office.

"I will be continuing to engage with the IDA and Mayo County Council to ensure that this bid is progressed and that the Killala site is given the proper consideration it deserves."
