Several leaking pipes in the Bagenalstown, Tullow and Carlow Town areas were identified and leakage of treated water has now been reduced by 1.16 million litres per day.
Mark O'Duffy, Irish Water's Networks Programme Regional Lead, said: "Given the high cost of treating and storing drinking water, it is a key priority for Irish Water to reduce leakage as much as possible. The Irish Water business plan sets out the objective of reducing leakage rates nationwide by 180 million litres per day by 2021. By doing this work in Carlow and elsewhere, we will not only create a more efficient water supply network, but we will also provide our customers with a much more secure and reliable supply.

The large volume of treated water that has been saved – over one million litres per day - clearly shows how important and necessary this work has been.
