Minister Is Finally Realising The Extent Of The Homelessness Crisis - SF

The Housing Minister is finally realising the extent of the homelessness crisis, Sinn Fein has said.

Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD made the statement following Minister Eoghan Murphy's comments on the Week in Politics.

Mr Ó Broin TD said: "On Budget Day, you had Minister Murphy announced €116m for homeless supports in 2018. While an increase in funding is welcome, the Minister failed to outline any strong measures focussed at keeping families in their homes.


"While landlords can still issue notices to quit for substantial refurbishment and issue notices to quit seeking vacant possession, we are going to see the number of families entering homeless services continue to rise.

"This is why the crisis will get worse and I cannot see it getting better while this government sets its social housing targets so low and refuses to reform the private rented sector.

"The Minister for Housing is finally realising the extent of the crisis and is admitting that his government's policies are not working. We now need the Minister to outline some ambitious solutions that will help stop the flow of families into homelessness."
