320,000 Litres Of Water Lost To Leakage In Wexford Now Being Saved

A total of 320,000 litres of treated water which had been lost to leakage every day in Co Wexford is now being saved, Irish Water has confirmed.

The firm invested €926,000 in a project to replace over 7km of old water mains at a number of places in the area.

A total of 3.25km of water mains have been replaced in Ballymitty and a further 920m of mains have been replaced in Wellington Bridge.


Work also took place in the Ferns area where 3km of aging mains have been replaced.

David Sharry, Capital Programmes Regional Lead with Irish Water, said: "This work represents an investment of almost €1 million in Co Wexford which will benefit local residents and businesses by providing a more secure and reliable water supply as well as reducing leakage on the network. By 2021 Irish Water has committed in its Business Plan to reduce leakage on the public water network to less than 38%. This project is part of our ongoing investment in Ireland’s water infrastructure."
